Most projects need between two and four. However many coats you're planning on, you need to recoat at the right time and in the right way and ensure your surface is properly prepared. How you prepare a surface for recoating with epoxy depends on whether the epoxy you're covering is wet or dry.

Can you do multiple layers of epoxy?

Yes, you can apply a second coat of resin if you need to fix a mistake or a surface imperfection. You can also pour multiple layers if you need to cover areas of high relief, if you're pouring into a mold or if you simply like the look of a thicker coat.

How long do you have to wait to pour another layer of epoxy?

It will look terrible when you finish sanding it, but don't worry. After you pour the second coat of epoxy, it will look good as new! Depending on the epoxy you've chosen to work with, you'll have to wait between 4 and 24 hours before applying your second coat.

Can you pour epoxy over cured epoxy?

Can I put another coat of epoxy over cured epoxy? Yes. Since the epoxy has cured a chemical bond is not possible so what is called a mechanical bond is needed. This simply means that the cured epoxy has to be lightly sanded before the next coat is applied: the first coat should have a matt, almost white, surface.

Why am I getting dimples in my epoxy?

Dimples can occur for 3 reasons: temperature fluctuation, micro dust particles and overtorching. To avoid getting dimples in your cured resin, make sure that the temperature in your resin room stays stable, that you use a dustcover and that you only lightly torch your resin!

How do I fix messed up epoxy?

An uneven hardening of your epoxy resin can lead to dull, or even tacky spots. To fix an uneven epoxy finish, wait until the epoxy has dried thoroughly, and then sand it lightly with fine-grained wet sandpaper. After this, make sure to wipe down the surface, so it is entirely free of any sanding dust and other debris.

Why is my epoxy bumpy?

Why did my epoxy turn white while mixing?

Occasionally the resin (part A) can build up crystallization and/or gel, which makes the resin cloudy. Don't worry, there's an easy fix! The white or crystallized product may form when the resin has frozen during shipping or storage.
