Deep in the detail ABC figures tell a curious story

Some things about June's ABC newspaper circulation results are much as expected: what the Indie and Guardian gained on May election coverage, for instance, they lost when the World Cup took over – while the Mirror and Sun, having lost at politics, managed modest football gains. Otherwise, nothing very exciting happened. Overall daily market 6.5% down in a year; overall Sunday market down 8.8%, with not a single Sunday paper showing gains.

But, buried deep in the detail, there are one or two curiosities. Oddity number one features Mr Richard Desmond's supposedly soaraway Star, sold at a teeth-clenching 20p to make a 45p Mirror sweat. But hang on, it's now 6.95% down year-on-year and actually contrived to miss any World Cup boost. Maybe the Desmond plan to charge 10p can change all that? Or maybe flat nothing would be better?
