Could Apple’s tablet be a magazine-loving, Amazon Kindle killer?
Anonymous sources within the publishing world have told Gizmodo that Apple has been in negotiation with major publishers to get their content on iTunes and the forthcoming Apple mac tablet.
Organisations including The New York Times are said to have had face-to-face meetings at Apple’s Cupertino HQ. The object of their mutterings and free biscuit consuming? Getting their content on to the Apple mac tablet.
The rumour suggests that although the new Apple tablet will handle audio and video just as the iPhone and iPod lines do already, ebook and magazine content will be key.
The speculation is that Apple will encourage publishers to create new content packages in the vein of iTunes LP and iTunes Extras. Magazines will add video and audio into the familiar titles they currently offer.
With Amazon’s Kindle still stuck in the static world of e-ink and not seemingly due for these shores anytime soon, Apple could be set to redefine the publishing world like it shook up the music industry.
